MUH Ilmava ventilation units were one of the best-selling products at the Valmet Loimaa plant, later Vallox Oy. More than 100,000 of them were produced between 1984 and 2003. Designer Erkki Marjasto played an important role in the development of the product.
Erkki Marjasto, who joined Valmet’s Pansio factory in 1969, worked for Valmet, Valmet Loimaa factory and later Vallox Oy for 40 years. As product designer, he was involved in the development and design of many pioneering products. One of the most well-known innovations was the product range of MUH Ilmava ventilation units.
MUH Ilmava was one of the first ventilation units offering supply and exhaust air, heat recovery, supply air filtration and post-heating. This was very new in the early 80’s. Of particular significance was also the installation location of the unit. Usually the ventilation units were placed in a cold attic or even on a roof where maintenance was difficult. Problems arose especially in the winter, when water condensing from the exhaust air may started to freeze.
MUH Ilmava is the role model for modern Vallox ventilation units
Marjasto had a solution for the before mentioned problems: MUH Ilmava would be placed indoors and at the same time the transfer of replacement air into the bedrooms and living areas would be improved. It brought a significant improvement in indoor air quality! MUH Ilmava served as a role model for modern energy-efficient Vallox ventilation units that take care of the supply and exhaust air.
Different MUH Ilmava models were manufactured at Valmet, later Vallox, for about 20 years, and Marjasto was involved in developing also their accessories, such as the silencer. MUH Ilmava products set the direction for a new era of residential ventilation and were pioneers for the forthcoming Vallox ventilation units, such as Ilmava, Vallox Silent, Vallox Digit and the todays MyVallox ventilation units.
Today Vallox 125 ventilation unit can replace MUH Ilmava
MUH Ilmava ventilation units can still be found in many homes. Some people may remeber Vallox 121 unit that was planned to replacing the old MUH Ilmava. The manufacturing of the Vallox 121 has ended.
The good news for those planning a ventilation renovation is that the MUH-Ilmava, MUH-Ilmava OK, Ilmava 100 and 120 (year models 1983-2004), all having six duct outputs, can be easily replaced with a new Vallox 125A MV unit without major duct modifications.
