MyVallox ventilation and the Vallox BlueSky duct network for a new wooden house

In 2020, Suvi and Tommi Wulff have lived in the wooden house they built themselves for two years. They are satisfied with the unnoticeable MyVallox ventilation system and the good indoor air.
When Suvi and Tommi had finished the installation of the ventilation ducts of their home in 2017, they shared their experience in their Ripaus Unelmapulveria blog: “The installation of the ventilation ducts was truly one of the easiest tasks of the entire construction project, and this is all thanks to the Vallox BlueSky air distribution system that we chose. ❤”
Having watched the installation of steel ventilation ducts in the neighbouring building, they feared that the installation would be difficult, challenging, and time-consuming. Quite a opposite! You can read more about the installation of the ventilation ducts in Suvi and Tommi’s house in the Ripaus Unelmapulveria blog (only in Finnish).
We were able to interview Suvi and Tommi now that they have lived in their house for two years and have had time to became acquainted with the MyVallox ventilation system.
Who belongs to your family?
Suvi and Tommi Wuff and a baby boy born in spring 2020.
What initiated your building project and when?
Our friends built a house on the neighbouring plot first and suggested that we purchase the adjacent plot from the landowner. We liked the idea and started to think about building a house of our own.
How is the project going at the moment?
Our house, outdoor sauna, and the yard area are now finished. The garage still needs some finishing touches, such as the eaves boards. Terrace railings will be added next summer. After that, the house will be ready for the final inspection. We have lived in the house for two years now and like it here very much. Our village is very lively, and we spend a lot of time with our friends who live next door. Our favourite place is the wood-burning outdoor sauna that is separate from the main building.
How did the ventilation design process go and how much did you participate in it yourself?
The ventilation system was designed by our HVAC designer and the process went well. We hardly participated in the design at all.
How did you end up with a Vallox ventilation unit and the Vallox BLueSky air distribution system?
Our HVAC designer recommended the BlueSky air distribution system. We chose it because its installation seemed so easy. We built our house ourselves and also installed the ventilation system ourselves. In addition, our house includes structures that would have made the installation of traditional sheet metal ventilation ducts difficult. After we had chosen the BlueSky system, the Vallox 145MV ventilation unit was recommended for us. It is suited to our house both in terms of floor area and air volume.
How is the Vallox ventilation system visible and audible in your everyday life?
Not at all really. And this is naturally a good thing. The quality and humidity of the indoor air are excellent. The ventilation unit is located in the technical space of the building and the control panel is in the utility room. Controlling the MyVallox ventilation unit is extremely easy and clear. Most of the time, there is no need to adjust the ventilation at all. We mainly utilise the Fireplace mode and the Boost mode if we have more people than normal in the house.
Our ventilation unit has an internal humidity sensor and it manages the boosting on our behalf if and when the humidity of the indoor air increases. There is no need for us to do anything!
A while ago, I burned the food really badly when cooking. The entire house smelt of burned food, but the smell disappeared and the air was restored back to normal really quickly thanks to the efficient ventilation.
How often do you change the filters of the ventilation unit?
We change them in accordance with the recommendations, i.e. every six months.
What is best about the Vallox ventilation system in your opinion?
The inconspicuousness and good indoor air.
What tips would you like to give to people who are designing a house and its ventilation?
Especially if you’re planning to install the ventilation system yourself, we warmly recommend the BlueSky system because it is so easy. For us, the ease of installation of the BlueSky system and the resulting time saving was more important than the ventilation unit itself. We watched our neighbour install a normal ventilation duct system and it was a very taxing project. We feared the installation of the ventilation system in advance, but, in the end, it proved to be one of the easiest phases of the entire building project. We are very happy with the system.
Would you recommend the Vallox ventilation system and if so, why?
Yes, we would. For the above reasons.
