Vallox’s EMC laboratory streamlines product development

Vallox Oy has built an EMC laboratory in connection with its Loimaa factory. EMC measurements carried out under the same roof with other product development activities streamline and speed up the designing of ventilation units and other products manufactured by Vallox.

All electrical devices and their components must be tested for EMC in the product development stage to ensure their electromagnetic compatibility.

EMC, the electromagnetic compatibility of electrical devices, is regulated by the EMC Directive. In practice, this means that devices manufactured in the EU must not create excessive disturbances that would affect other devices or equipment, and they must also be immune to disturbances to a certain extent.

Time to build our own laboratory

Today, the queues to use commercial EMC laboratories are long. It may take months to get devices measured and tested. When a laboratory that had performed EMC measurements for Vallox before came onto the market, Vallox decided to buy this EMC laboratory to secure and speed up its product development.

The transfer and building of the equipment and other property began in July 2022, lasting for about five months. The EMC laboratory went live in December 2022, and it is already in active use by Vallox’s product development, in addition to the existing acoustic and cold laboratories.

The EMC laboratory can perform confirmation testing from the very first stages of a product development project, verifying the compliance of products with the EMC Directive. All electric components are also tested in the prototype stage to verify their EMC compatibility.

Plans to provide testing services for others

The primary target of building the laboratory was to speed up the product development process of the company’s own products, but Vallox is also considering making testing services available to others who need them.
