Carbon handprint refers to companies whose activities increase positive climate impacts for customers. This determines the amount of emissions saved by a company’s operations or solutions. The carbon handprint also includes guiding consumers to purchase more environmentally friendly services and products. Although the aim is to reduce the company’s carbon footprint, i.e. carbon dioxide emissions from the company’s own operations, the carbon handprint serves as a separate indicator that measures the company’s climate impacts.

Concrete ways of contributing to the carbon handprint include the use of raw materials or energy sources with a smaller carbon footprint. The carbon handprint can also be increased by extending product lifetime, improving a product’s life-cycle performance, reducing the amount of waste generated by the company, and promoting carbon assimilation and sequestration. If a product’s carbon footprint is smaller than the carbon footprint of other similar products on the market, this also contributes to the carbon handprint.

This solution provides more positive environmental impacts compared to a traditional, natural ventilation system.
