The bypass is activated when the outdoor temperature is higher than the set supply air temperature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Depending on the software version, MyVallox MV and CFi units also allow the user to set a heating season outdoor temperature limit. The setting range is typically 0-19\u00b0C. When the outdoor temperature is below the set limit, the bypass function is not available and heat recovery operates at full efficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">MyVallox MV and CFi ventilation units also feature a cooling function. It automatically boosts ventilation when the outdoor air is cooler than the indoor air, typically at night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, the main purpose of a ventilation unit is ventilation, not cooling. Ventilation should not be used as a cooling system. In summer, the effect of ventilation on indoor temperature is usually small compared to other factors. Solar radiation, outdoor temperature and internal heat loads, such as people and electrical appliances, have a much greater impact on how warm a home becomes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to keep your home cool in summer?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Solar shading is the most important single factor in preventing a home from overheating. If direct sunlight enters through the windows, the cooling effect of ventilation is often not enough to maintain a comfortable indoor temperature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ideally, solar radiation should be blocked outside the building. Long roof eaves and external awnings are effective solutions. Blinds can also help, but they do not prevent the inner surface of the window from warming up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ventilation unit should also be set correctly for summer conditions. The method depends on the model. In some units, the heat recovery bypass is controlled through the controller, while in others it operates automatically based on measured temperatures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In older units, summer operation may require turning a summer damper or replacing the heat recovery cell with a summer cell. Detailed instructions can always be found in the user manual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During hot days, when the outdoor air is warmer than the indoor air, ventilation should be kept at a low fan speed and windows and doors should remain closed. When the outdoor air becomes cooler than the indoor air, ventilation can be boosted and window ventilation can also be used if necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How much does a ventilation unit affect the temperature of the whole home?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the supply air entering a two-person bedroom is 10\u00b0C cooler than the room air, the cooling capacity provided by the ventilation unit is approximately 150 W. The same cooling effect can be achieved by shading just a 20 cm-high strip of a one-meter-wide window facing the sun. This illustrates the importance of investing in effective solar shading.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The supply air temperature may be somewhat higher than the outdoor air temperature even when the heat recovery system is bypassed. This is because the air is slightly warmed inside the ventilation unit and by the energy generated by the fan. In addition, if the supply air ducts are installed in areas with elevated temperatures, the supply air temperature will also increase. Such locations may include ceiling cavities between bathrooms and saunas, where heating pipes or domestic hot water pipes may also be present. In these situations, outdoor air can warm significantly while passing through the ducts, increasing the heat load of the dwelling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Heat load management with a ventilation unit<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To ensure proper operation of the ventilation unit, regular maintenance is also essential. Filters must be kept clean so that air can circulate efficiently, and airflow from outside is not restricted by, for example, a clogged grille or insect screen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In spring and early summer, it is also important to consider the impact of other building systems on indoor temperatures. For example, underfloor heating can increase the home&#8217;s heat load if it remains on while outdoor temperatures rise. In such cases, the building may effectively be heated and cooled at the same time, which is not energy efficient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the heat load in the dwelling is high, a dedicated air conditioning unit is an effective way to maintain a comfortable indoor temperature. An air conditioner recirculates, dehumidifies, and cools the indoor air. Air conditioning can also be integrated into the home&#8217;s ventilation system using a duct-mounted cooling coil installed in the supply air duct.
