Carbon handprint refers to companies whose activities increase positive climate impacts for customers. This determines the amount of emissions saved by a company\u2019s operations or solutions. The carbon handprint also includes guiding consumers to purchase more environmentally friendly services and products. Although the aim is to reduce the company\u2019s carbon footprint, i.e. carbon dioxide emissions from the company\u2019s own operations, the carbon handprint serves as a separate indicator that measures the company\u2019s climate impacts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Concrete ways of contributing to the carbon handprint include the use of raw materials or energy sources with a smaller carbon footprint. The carbon handprint can also be increased by extending product lifetime, improving a product\u2019s life-cycle performance, reducing the amount of waste generated by the company, and promoting carbon assimilation and sequestration. If a product\u2019s carbon footprint is smaller than the carbon footprint of other similar products on the market, this also contributes to the carbon handprint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An environmental dimension is considered in product design (DfE \u2013 Design for Environment), the energy efficiency of ventilation, and the quality of ventilation units.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, good ventilation keeps building structures in good condition, improving their durability and maintaining the building\u2019s value. An energy-efficient ventilation unit saves energy by recovering it and ventilating the space according to need. This reduces the total energy consumption, even though energy is used to operate the unit during the product\u2019s life cycle.
